Fishing January 2008

It was 6 AM in the middle of January and my son and I were boarding the "Eagle One" and pulling out of the slip. If you have ever been to the Cabo San Lucas marina early morning, the wake up is something you have to see. Many times before I go fishing I have breakfast at Cheeseburger/Cheeseburgers on the dock just to watch the Marina wake-up and come alive. If you get there before the sun comes up, you will be in for a real treat. The marina wakes up like it is choreographed to music. Like a concert starting off slow, low volume and coming to a loud, grand crescendo at full light. At first there is no movement as the marina is asleep. Then as the sun starts to rise, the sleepy marina starts to muster a few people and boats. When it gets to full light the concert comes to a crazy volume and the marina is a bee hive of activity. Looks like a traffic jam and truly a amazing site. Think of someone slowly turning up the volume of your favorite concert as the sun rises, so does the marina activity. At the end of the concert at it highest point the Marina is a buzz with activity - boats, people and birds everywhere. Looks like a Rt 5 traffic jam and it's truly amazing there are no accidents.
As we started out the mouth of Cabo Marina we stopped, got our 30 live bait, as the word was the bit was on and boats were getting over 20 Marlin per day. As we headed around the Arch-El Arco and headed north up the coast to the Golden gate area, my son and I had high hopes. We sat back and let the morning sunrise wake us up. The sunrise over the Pacific was breathtaking as we sat facing the stern of the boat will running for the Gate. Nothing more refreshing than the morning sun on your face with the salty sea air blowing in your face. It's a real wake-up call! Did the run in about an hour and we were fishing by 7 am just as the sun was up and the birds where diving. Got a couple real quick Strip Marlin of around the 150lb category. Then the birds disappeared as well as the fish. We anguished whether to run another 20 mile north to the Fingers or head south. So after listening to the radio and a little discussion we decided to troll south along the edge. On the way South we ran into four more Marlin which we ended up 4 for 6. All in all it was a great day on the water as seeing my son catch three Marlin was fantastic! He is an great avid fisherman and a good one. Got back to the dock about 4Pm, sat down and had a beer. We didn't get our 20 Marlin but any day you get out on the water especially with your son its a GREAT DAY.
Oh yes, my son tells me I am now famous as he took a video of me catching my Marlin and posted on "YouTube". Whats YouTube?
